A prototype of the unreleased SimCity for the NES.
==Notes==
* Announced for a "Spring 1991" release in Vol. 18 of Nintendo Power. This version of the game was likely never fully completed, though is still very playable.
* Archive contains:
** A ROM with an iNES header that will allow the game to be played in an emulator.
** A soundtrack rip in MP3/NSF format.
** Pictures of the cart and review/previews from various magazines that covered the game at the time.
** A guide which explains how to play the game and some history behind the cart.
A localization prototype for the unreleased PAL NES version of '''''Exerion'''''.

==Notes==
* Similar to Jaleco's overseas version of City Connection, this version of Exerion is spruced up from the Japanese Famicom version. It has larger PRG & CHR ROMs and the extra space was used for better graphics and music.
* The new title screen music was done by Tsukasa Tawada, a composer who worked at Jaleco during the late 80s and early 90s. He listed "Exerion (European version)" among his credits on his [https://web.archive.org/web/20050911134812/http://twdstudio.com/profile.html old website].
* An NTSC US version of Exerion was submitted to Nintendo lotcheck on March 17, 1989. It has the same CHR ROM as this PAL version, so the PAL version is likely from roughly the same time.
* For years the only available ROM for this game was a NintendoAge release with a defaced title screen and the Nintendo licensing text removed. Possibly due to confusion originating from the NintendoAge release, the game is currently DAT'd in the No-Intro romset as "Exerion II (USA) (Proto)" despite being a PAL localization prototype of Exerion, not a sequel. Patches for the NintendoAge release that restore the title screen were created by MrNorbert1994 and Bro3256 which byte matches with the ROM dumped in 2017.
An unreleased US localization of '''Final Fantasy II''' for the '''NES'''.

==Notes==
{{Tcrf link|Proto:Final Fantasy II}}
* Unreleased US localization, it is sometimes referred to as '''''Final Fantasy II: Dark Shadow Over Palakia''''', though this subtitle never appears in the game itself.
* The game can be played from start to finish, with quite a few NoA mandated changes already in place.
** It doesn't appear as if the game was ready for release however, as the translation is in a very rough state. For example, references to death are casually left in the script, which would have meant the game would be rejected if it was sent to NoA for approval. There is also evidence of further changes that weren't implemented in this version of the game.
* It's cancellation is thought to be due to Squaresoft opting to translate Final Fantasy IV instead of continuing on with a game for the outdated NES.
* Miscellaneous Notes:
** Game is emulatable: Yes.
This is one of three Nintendo 3DS demos that Nintendo showcased at a private media event during E3 2010; but was not accessible from attendees on the show floor. 3D Challenge was an early demonstration of the Nintendo 3DS' 3D capabilities.

==Notes==
* At the time of this prototype's compilation, the programmer, Franz Lanzinger, was working for Tengen. He would later leave the company to found Bitmasters, and the game would be published by American Video Entertainment instead.
* Uses the sound effects from Ms. Pac-Man (Lanzinger's previous game)
* Miscellaneous Notes:
** Game is emulatable: Yes (as of January 10, 2026).
* Unreleased English localization prototype of "Nangoku Shirei!! Spy vs. Spy" called "Spy vs Spy: The Island Caper". Cancelled for unknown reasons, but seems to have been intended for a 1988 release.
* ROM checksum matches the version of the game submitted to Nintendo lotcheck on June 22, 1988, meaning that this is what would have been released on cartridge in the US if Kemco had not chosen to cancel the game's release in that region.
* Besides the changes made to the title screen, the island names were changed to generic nouns. The Japanese version uses specific names for each of the islands.
* Walking speed has been adjusted so that its faster.
The final build of the unreleased US version of '''''Mr. Gimmick'''''.
==Notes==
* ROM checksums match the version of Mr. Gimmick submitted to Nintendo lotcheck on July 17, 1992. It was approved by Nintendo on August 4, 1992, meaning that this is what would have been released on cartridge in the US if Sunsoft had not chosen to cancel the game's release in that region.
* A slightly earlier NTSC Mr. Gimmick build was previously released in 2011 by RetroUSB. The only differences between that build and this final build are that the order of the intro text screens were changed, and the music was delayed to not start until after the "Licensed by Nintendo" text. This matches the final PAL version. Lotcheck indicates that this was the second ROM submission, so the licensing text being moved to the start may have been requested by Nintendo.
* Intro text screen order from the slightly earlier NTSC build: Sunsoft Presents -> Mr. Gimmick -> © 1992 Sunsoft -> Licensed by Nintendo
* Intro text screen order from this build and PAL final: Licensed by Nintendo -> Sunsoft Presents -> Authentic Entertainment -> Mr. Gimmick -> © 1992 Sunsoft
* Note that you start with four lives like the Japanese version rather than eight lives like the PAL version.
Final build of the unreleased US version of Mr. Gimmick.
* ROM checksums match the version of the game submitted to Nintendo lotcheck on July 17, 1992.
The only differences between that build and this final build are that the order of the intro text screens were changed, and the music was delayed to not start until after the "Licensed by Nintendo" text. This matches the final PAL version. Lotcheck indicates that this was the second ROM submission, so the licensing text change may have been requested by Nintendo.
Final build of the unreleased US version of Mr. Gimmick.
==Notes==
* ROM checksums match the version of the game submitted to Nintendo lotcheck on July 17, 1992.
Lotcheck indicates that this was the second ROM submission, so the licensing text change may have been requested by Nintendo.
