* The first instruction on the cartridge is corrupt, which may cause issues with getting it to run. Change the first byte from 0x20 to 0x2E to fix it.
* Does not have any developer/publisher/licensing credits in the intro
* Has a slightly different intro, with no overlaid logo, and a shot of Yusuke before the images start scrolling
* The main menu music also plays during the intro sequence and cutscenes
* The second to fourth lines in cutscenes are positioned two pixels further to the right
* Some other text, graphical, and map differences are known to exist
* Two versions of the prototype were made available: the normal unaltered file, and one that allows you to start a game from the beginning if File 1 is selected.
* Many of the sound effects are missing.
** Most areas of the game use a placeholder track that does not go used in the final game.
* Some localization work was done, mainly on the UI elements, but certain sections such as the Border Jump minigame have also been translated.
* The label says November 11th, 2002 although the build date of this prototype was May 3rd, 2003 suggesting that the cartridge once held a different prototype but was overwritten by this one.
==Notes==
* Dated 3 months after the final Japanese build, and 11 months before the final European one.
* Contains two debug menus:
** The one labeled "TOTTOKO HAMUTARO" contains game-related debug features, such as a level selection menu and an animation viewer. It can be accessed by either Pressing '''L'''+'''R'''+'''A'''+'''B''' at boot or '''Start'''+'''Select'''+'''A'''+'''B''' during gameplay.
* Given its label, the cartridge may have housed a prototype of ''Tomato Adventure'' at one point.
* Menu and Items header graphic still uses Japanese, in the Item menu, the B Button still uses Japanese.
A prototype of '''''The Rescue of Princess Blobette''''' for the Game Boy.
==Notes==
* A look at the header shows that this ROM is version 0.24, dated Sept 26th, 1990, compared to the retail game’s version 0.25 and Oct 4th 1990.
* Similarly to Bubble Bobble, there is a bunch of minor miscellaneous hex differences dotted throughout the whole ROM which has shifted the data downwards, making it look more different than it really is.
* Judging from the closeness of dates between the prototype and the final version, I’d say there’s most likely no noticeable differences in gameplay to be seen here.
A sample version of Probotector 2. It's possible there is more than 1 copy of it. Similar to their NES and SNES titles, Konami gave each of their Game Boy sample games a specific alphanumeric code; this one reads RE136. It is uncertain where the differences are. Given the label, there might be more than 1 copy of this sample.
The data does not match the final retail version of the game, nor does it resemble any data available on the internet as of this writing. A gameplay demonstration revealed a significant difference: the game's multiplayer option appears to allow up to four players, whereas the final game only allows two. Beyond this, no differences were observed in gameplay or appearance.
Provenance Notes:

According to the submitter, this item was purchased from the McLaren Auction Services "Vintage Nintendo Online-Only Auction," which ran from March 25 to April 1, 2022. McLaren claims that these items came from Steve McKay, former "General Manager of the Mexico Division" at Nintendo. Approximately 97 items from this auction were submitted to WATA at once. Given that the auction listings are not archived on McLaren's website, I was unable to verify each individual item as having come from the auction. However, I did view this auction when it was live, and can attest that the scope of this collection is in line with my memory of what was available.

Conclusion:

Given the authentic parts used, the provenance, and the unique data available across the items from this McLaren auction, I have no reason to doubt the authenticity of this item. Why a Nintendo rep might have a bootleg PCB is a mystery for others to solve.
