An NTSC-U review build of Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX for the Sony PlayStation, dated eight days before the first available final build.

Notes

  • The roster in the options menu isn't centered.
  • Several character animations in the player select menu are different.
    • Dennis McCoy's render has no lighting or shadows applied to the model.
    • Granny's render is missing the bike and has some faulty shadowing. Her idle animation in addition to that is a tad janky.
    • Tony Hawk looks like he is not handling a bike well, it's lying on the ground with it's wheels moving and he is throwing a look to the camera. In the final, he can be seen sitting on it, relaxing with his hands behind his back.
  • The goal texts in the "Level Challenges" screen displayed in the Career mode level loading sequences are way less stylized.
  • The song and artist info is missing in the Sound Options menu.
  • There's slightly more vegetation and a slightly different looking ice skating rink in the 'New York City' level.

Cheat Codes

  • Master Code

To unlock everything, navigate to the "Press Start" screen, then hold down Square + Circle and press either the left or right directional button. Whereas in the final build, the entry would only be confirmed by a sound, a line reading "CHEAT MODE ENABLED" appears for a few seconds in the upper left corner here as well. This code does not unlock the THPS School level.

  • In-game Codes

The following codes however are entered in the pause menu, while holding down L1. A shaking pause menu will confirm a successful entry.

In addition to having an extra set of debug cheats enabled, most of the codes known to be in the final, have different inputs in this one. A few of them would later be reused in the PC and Dreamcast port of the game. For the most part, the debug codes match ones used in pre-release builds of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, whose modified engine this game runs on.

Display rail balance meter Left, Circle, Square, Triangle, Square, Circle, X LOST SOX Is neither toggleable in-game, nor active by default. With the exception of the Japanese version of this game built and released around a year after both NTSC-U and PAL finals.
End run Circle, Up, Triangle, Circle, Up, Triangle CUT CUT
Fat tires / Exorcist Down, Circle, Circle, Down DOOD In addition to having fat tires, landing a combo with a score of 10.000 or higher turns the player's head green and spins it around 360°.
FPS counter Down, Up, Left, Left, Down, Up, Left, Left DULL DULL Displays a small box on the lower right side of the screen with the game's current framerate.
Perfect balance Right, Up, Left, Square RULS
Replay save destination Right, Circle, Right, Down, Right, Circle, Right, Down RCRD RCRD This code tries to activate a function not present in this build, that saves replays that are normally written to a memory card, onto an attached dev kit / computer instead. It would try to save them as demoA.rec, demoB.rec, etc.. The same format used for the THPS1 gameplay videos that play in the main menu after a few moments of inactivity.
Reverse riding direction Square, Circle, Square, Circle SOSO Works in every direction. Entering the code while the rider is dropping to the ground, will make him go back up.
Score times 10 Triangle, X, Triangle, Up, Down, Up TXTUDU Multiplies the base score by 10.
Score divided by 10 Up, Down, Up, Triangle, X, Triangle UDUTXT Divides the base score by 10.
Screenshots Circle, Up, Left, Left, Square CULLS Press SELECT to freeze the game. The camera can be moved with the following inputs using a Controller in Port 2.

Toggle blood Right, Up, Square, Triangle RUST Set to on by default.
Toggle HUD Square, Left, Up, Triangle SLUT Having the HUD disabled can soft lock the game if either the clock runs out on you in a timed mode or if you end the run before landing a combo with a relatively big score, since that would normally make you wait until the score has been transferred from the trick string to the total amount. This can be remedied by holding down SELECT + START for three seconds to be booted to the main menu.
Unlock THPS Warehouse Circle, Square, Triangle, Left CSTL Can also be unlocked by landing a combo above 200.000 points in a timed mode.
Unlock THPS School Circle, Square, Triangle, Up CSTU Scrapped level with many bugs intact. It is impossible to enter the gym and jump off any ramp that is directly attached to a wall.


Has no level preview video in the game files. Despite there being no other in-game trigger, it is possible to unlock this level with this code only. Something that is not possible in the release build without modding the game files.


The retail version will load this build's save file and vice versa. Saving the game with this level unlocked, allows you to select it in the final version's level select menu as well. Does not unlock by entering the master code.

Unlock THPS Burnside Circle, Square, Triangle, Right CSTR Can also be unlocked by finishing the game 100% with all riders.
Unlock Granny Circle, Square, Triangle, Down CSTD Can also be unlocked by pressing "Retry" in the pause menu for ten times in a timed mode.
Unlock Tony Hawk Circle, Square, Triangle, Triangle CSTT Can be unlocked by getting both gold medals and all 30 covers with any rider.
