The game has constant lag spikes even on a PSP Slim with 64MB RAM, but the debug menu on this release is very well developed, it has an option to turn on a Bot for autoplay right on the main debug menu, to open the menu mid-game press SELECT and to close it press either SELECT again or TRIANGLE.

There is a certain combination of Audio Options so that when you play the game only the audio on the track you are playing actually plays meaning you can connect your PSP to a DAW and rip the multitracks from it easily. check it out.

How to play this on retail Hardware by HalfMileRide You will need:

  • a PSP 1000/2000 (one that can inject cIPL)
  • The Game itself
  • ChronoSwitch Downgrader (If you are not on 5.03 already)
  • ChickHEN R2 & GEND-3
  • Original Firmware Updates 5.03 & 5.50

I have included a package which contains everything you will need to follow this guide, (apart from a brain, time, the game and a PSP)

This guide assumes that you don't have a Pandora Battery nor a Magic Memory Stick, that you have updated above 6.XX and that you are on a LCFW like PRO-B10 (Which is very likely) Before doing anything we must know if our PSP has the ability to have a custom IPL installed (a custom IPL lets you get permanent CFW on a PSP) If you know and you are certain that your PSP can have a cIPL installed then go ahead at your own risk.

If you want to know if your PSP can install an IPL or if you're not certain then do this first

  1. Download PSP Ident & Connect your PSP to PC (PSPIdent is in the package linked above)
  2. Copy it to "Memory Stick:\PSP\GAME"
  3. Run it from GAME tab in XMB & press X when it prompts you to make a screenshot
  4. If your motherboard is either a TA-088v2 or LOWER then you CAN follow this guide, if you have a motherboard higher than TA-088v2 or PSP 3000, PSP Go or a PSP Street (E-1000) then for the moment you can't run this game. scroll down for the explanation.

I included a PSP Ident Image for reference in the Tools folder it shows a PSP with motherboard TA-085v2 which CAN be flashed with a cIPL

For Owners of PSP 1000 (FAT)

  1. Download the ZIP file and unpack it to desktop
  2. Connect your PSP to PC & Copy Chronoswitch Downgrader to "Memory Stick:\PSP\GAME"
  3. Rename "503.PBP" to "EBOOT.PBP", make a folder named UPDATE and move "EBOOT.PBP" there, then move the UPDATE folder to "Memory Stick:\PSP\GAME"
  4. Disconnect your PSP from PC
  5. Run ChronoSwitch Downgrader from GAME Tab in PSP and press X when it prompts you to do so it will launch the 5.03 Update we had copied to the PSP before, accept the agreement & install the Firmware.
  6. After it boots navigate the menu to Settings>System Settings>System Information it should say "System Software Version 5.03"
  7. Copy the contents of the folder "ChickHEN for PSP 1000" to the root of your Memory Stick if it asks to overwrite press Yes
  8. Disconnect your PSP form PC & reboot it
  9. Turn the PSP back on & go to the Photo Tab in XMB, press X to open the ChickHEN folder, images of eggs will begin to load, stay on the first one (don't open it just wait on it) after 10secs or so your PSP will experience a crash and change in color, it will reboot if done right, if it just crashes then take the battery out and try again.
  10. after it reboots by itself go again to Settings>System Settings>System Information it should say something like "System Software 5.03 ChickHEN"
  11. Go to the 'Tools (Rock Band 2 PSP Alpha)' folder and copy 550.PBP to the root of your memory stick, then rename the folder called "GEN-D3" that is inside 'Tools (Rock Band 2 PSP Alpha)' to "UPDATE" and copy it to "Memory Stick:\PSP\GAME"
  12. Disconnect your PSP from the PC and Launch "5.50 GEN-3 Update" from GAME Tab in XMB Press X to Enter & Press X on the first option that is there it's called "Flash Install CFW 5.50 GEN-D3" Press X again when it prompts and wait for it to finish it should take about 4 minutes for it to finish
  13. After it finishes select the option to shutdown the PSP
  14. Hold the R-BUTTON on the PSP & Turn it ON, it should boot to the Recovery Menu
  15. Navigate to 'Advanced > Advanced Configuration > Plain Modules option should be DISABLED - Execute BOOT.BIN should be ENABLED' Press X to modify the options
  16. Navigate to 'Back' twice & then to 'Exit' your PSP should Reboot.
  17. Copy the Rock Band Alpha ISO to "Memory Stick:\ISO"
  18. Launch the Game from GAME Tab in XMB
  19. Enjoy

  19. I don't know... Enjoy?

Why can't I use my PSP 3000, Go or PSP Street?

When this game got leaked I didn't have a PSP so I had to get one, I bought a PSP 3000 but sadly I could not get it to run on it, this ISO needs to be run only from BOOT.BIN and to disable loading of Plain Modules on UMD/ISO, options not present on current LCFW's for PSP 3000, Go or PSP Street, The only way to modify these options is to downgrade to a CFW that has them (like 5.50 GEN D-3) and only PSP models 1000/2000 can go that far down, I had to buy one and hunt down those files to be able to run this incredible game.

The ChickHEN exploit dates back to 2009! Modifying the ISO in UMDGEN still didn't let me launch it on my PSP 3000. you might have more luck getting it to run it though, (try everything at your own risk).
