An NTSC-U prototype of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater for the Sony PlayStation. Built 44 days before the US and EU final.

This build was distributed on several bootleg discs can be traced back to at least the mid-2000's, though it is not known what the original source is.

Initially released by sairuk on November 18, 2016, the disc itself was so damaged, it wouldn't go past the level select screen on hardware, let alone work in emulators. Due to it's condition, it was impossible to create a good dump of the disc. However, the fact that all non-game files match the ones in the July 10, 1999 prototype, made it possible to create a playable hybrid version using that disc's HED, WAD and EXE files. Five years later, another disc with this build was found by Silverbuzz that is in much better condition, and has been released on September 30, 2021.

Notes

General Differences

  • Aside from the Activision and Neversoft intro videos, there are no FMV's in this build.
    • An earlier, unused version of the Neversoft intro is used, using the first eight seconds of "Inflated Head" from Earthworm Jim 2 (1995).
  • The main menu music is missing.
  • "Free Skate" is called "Practice".
  • An additional multiplayer game called "Hoops" was cut from the final.
  • The options menu as well as the in-game "Sound Levels" menu hasn't been implemented, meaning there is no way to adjust audio levels or change the music.
  • Some skaters wear different clothes.
  • Though every board in the Equipment Select menu is accessible, most decks will just have a placeholder image in-game.
  • The Level Select menu uses mostly different preview images.
  • Instead of a static level loading screen, you can scroll between tape challenges.
  • Many goal items have different placements and are much harder to obtain.
  • Point pick-ups are colored rings in this version.
  • The skater glows when you fill up the special bar.
  • You can perform Fastplants even from grinds and wallrides.
  • The trick string has no fail animation and blends in with the score display if a third line appears.
  • While some special tricks are implemented, they're not registered as such.
  • Getting to the end of a rail whilst performing a Boardslide, doesn't bring the player back to a 50-50 stance, so you have to spin the skater manually in order to not make them bail.
  • The run ends whether a combo is finished or not.
  • Instead of the Vandals' song "Euro-Barge", a track from their latest album at that time, this build uses an older song of theirs called "Change My Pants (I Don't Wanna)".
  • A crash handler is active by default.
    • The game will crash if you try to load into a memory card containing a save game from the final build.
    • The final build locks the trick multiplier at x19. This build is missing that cap, so attempting to go over x20 will glitch out and crash the game on hardware. This does not affected multipliers gained from gaps and spins.

Level Differences

Warehouse, Woodland Hills
  • The level model and textures are in a very basic state.
  • There is no rail connecting the ledge of the halfpipe with the ramps around area with the taxi.
School, Miami
  • The skybox has a lot more red tones, presumably to depict a later time of day.
  • At the start of the level, seen on the right is a passage that holds a few bonus rings. Unlike the final game, it can be accessed from the inside of the gym.
  • The billboards that normally show the "Freedumb" album cover by Suicidal Tendencies in the final, instead inform the player this game will be released in the fall.
Mall, New York
  • If the skater comes near the two fire exits in the area just after the parking levels, the doors will open for a few seconds and we get to see a burning hallway.
  • A few kickers are missing, making jumps to certain heights and platforms much harder.
  • The skybox in the outside area doesn't render correctly.
Skatepark, Chicago
  • This level has an actual skybox visible through the windows, whereas the final game for some reason is a grey void.
Downtown, Minneapolis
  • This level seems to be untouched from the April 9, 1999 build.
  • There is a parking garage section connecting the streets from around the park area and near the movie theater.
  • The tunnel leading to the rooftops has very basic texturing.
Downhill Jam, Phoenix
  • A very orange, cheap-looking skybox, likely depicting sunset is used.
  • Falling into the water ends the run.
Streets, San Francisco
  • There is no music playing in this level.
  • It seems the object goal has not been implemented and therefore is not completable.
  • A large portion of this level is still unfinished. There are a lot of holes and untextured walls.
  • There is an entirely cut section around the Hubba area, with a grass hill and a big fence.
  • There is no cable car or rails in this level. Instead a police car is driving on the streets.
  • There is a small floor-area passage going through the building you're starting the "Pagoda gap" jump from. While it's removed in the final, it is visible in the level select menu.
Roswell, New Mexico
  • There is no music playing in this level.

Severe corruption in all files besides ATVILOGO.STR and LOGO.STR (~5148 sectors) Corruption only in LOGO.STR and SUICIDE.STR. (~339 sectors)

Importing the sectors from the first disc that were shown to be corrupted in the new disc, resulted in 1 remaining audible corruption in SUICIDE.STR, which can be patched with the file from the July 10, 1999 build.
