A prototype of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 for the Sony PlayStation, dated 95 days before the final build.

Notes

  • An NTSC-U demo created for and used at E3 2000 and sent to press outlets as a preview version.
  • The "Options" menu hasn't been implemented yet, it redirects to the Skateshop.
    • Most decks are not available yet.
  • Create-A-Skater, though mostly complete, is a bit buggy.
    • Often the weight reverts back to 180 pounds when the skaters skin color or some clothing is changed.
    • The given name of the skater, would default to "Custom Skater" in the Level Select and competition heat score screens.
    • While the Career progress can be saved onto a memory card, the customized skater can not. Once the game is restarted and a save file loaded, the skater reverts to his default style.
  • Cash pick-ups as well as some Career mode goal objects can be collected in the other game modes as well.
    • In similar fashion to the previous Pro Skater installment, obtaining cash pick-ups count as points.
  • The trick assignment option has not been implemented at this point in development.
  • None of the game's secret characters can be found in this build.
  • Some levels are not finalized, most notably Hangar, Venice Beach, The Bullring and Skate Heaven, with varying degrees of untextured or unfinished spots.
    • School II has a bad case of texture bleeding, and trying to enter the gym from the Gonz rail entrance after leaving from the other door, causes the inside not to load.
    • If you select the 2-player restart in Venice Beach you get a very early version of it that is so big, it will crash when you get to some areas.
    • A 100-point pick-up can be found in one of the outside areas in Skatestreet. Originating in the first Pro Skater game, this is a leftover from earlier versions of THPS2 before the cash pick-ups were introduced to replace them.
    • There's a small passage above the pit in New York, that connects both streets.
    • Chopper Drop, Skate Heaven and all THPS levels in the game files can only be accessed via hacking. None of them have pages in the level select menu.
    • The level select menu has an unused page for the Park Editor level called "Demo Park".
  • Hold down L1+L2 in any menu to open a hidden debug feature, where you can move around separate menu elements.
  • All numbers and symbols in the trick string are yellow. Therefor any blue-colored gap names would color these green.
  • The physics are not refined yet. Especially the newly introduced game mechanics.
  • "Big Drop" is not fully implemented. While the skater will bail from certain heights, the player is not informed about it.

Cheat codes

In addition to having an extra set of debug cheats enabled, most of the codes used in this build are leftovers of the first Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Other than adding a few new ones, the debug codes either match the ones used in earlier builds or have been slightly altered.

To enter these codes, navigate to the in-game pause menu, hold down L1 and enter the code. A shaking pause screen will confirm a successful entry.

Playable Levels

Besides all level files for THPS2 available on disc (albeit most of them being in an unfinished state), all levels from the first Tony Hawk's Pro Skater can be found as well.

To be able to play them, one must unpack, and later repack the WAD file and change the name of the level loading files [***_t.trg] to equal the file name length of the files normally used to load the main levels in the game. To set which level select page should load into which level, open the disc image in a hex editor and change the [***_T] names (located between addresses F5E08 and F619E) according to your renamed file in the WAD.
