A prototype of Xbox Developer Kit Recovery Disc for the Xbox.
Xbox Developer Kit Recovery Disc for the Xbox.
PLEASE ONLY USE ON DVT4 dev and debug kits. Will most likely brick anything else.
Also don't use this on a xbox that still has data on it, THIS DISK WILL NUKE ALL THE DATA ON THE XBOX.

This disk will install
Dev Dash    1.00.4361.1
Retail Dash 1.00.4039.01
Kernel ROM  1.00.4039.01
If you are on a BIOS higher then 4039 this disk will not update it.

At the start of the install process you will be asked to
Press Y for retail and any other button for dev kit.
This is not for retail consoles.
If you press Y it will only setup the retail dash and not setup any of the dev kit stuff.
This basically turns the xbox into a debug only console where you can play prototypes of a disk but
cant do much else. Good for trade shows and meetings where you have to show the game but you don't want
people to mess with the xbox.
As you still have disk access though, you can just stick the recovery disc in and format the xbox again
Back to full dev kit.

Sometimes these Recovery Discs can "fail successfully"(0x0000001a) at the end where all the files where copied across and setup
But it complains about not being able to update the bios because it was already up to date or some other "out of scope" error.
If the progress bars have all completed and you got to the end of the install it should be safe to eject the disk and reboot.
DO NOT interrupt it while it's doing things, just wait.
If you update in order eg. from 3911 to 4361 you shouldn't see any errors.

* Easter Eggs
In the retail dashboard included with this recovery disc there appears to be a wire frame mode of the retail dash.
Hold down the black button and the dash will now render in wire frame mode.
See last 2 screenshots.
Unsure if there are any other button combos that do things at this time.
