"Earth Bound" is a prototype of the unreleased English translation of MOTHER that was discovered in 1998. Would officially be released on the Wii U Virtual Console as EarthBound Beginnings in 2015.
Notes
- Was long known unofficially as EarthBound Zero in fan circles due to initial releases of the rom editing the title screen to differentiate itself from the SNES game.
- Announced, initially, for a "Fall 1991" release in Vol. 18 of Nintendo Power. However, it seems as if Nintendo was still considering the game for a possible release as late as March of 1994, as this cartridge shows.
- The localization was fully completed and ready to ship, but was said to have been shelved due to the marketing department having no faith in the game's success. Another factor likely would have been the extra cost in producing a planned pack-in strategy guide.
- Was confirmed by localizer Phil Sandhop that the final build (likely to be this one) was completed on September of 1990.
- Officially released internationally through the Wii U Virtual Console as EarthBound Beginnings.
- All of the changes made specifically for this version were carried over to 2003's MOTHER 1+2 for Game Boy Advance.
