A preview prototype of EyeToy: Play for the PlayStation 2.
Notes
- Disc dumped twice, dumps matched.
- Requires an EyeToy camera to play and is dated just over 2 months before the PAL release.
- Language selector is merely a placeholder at this point due to every option functioning as if you chose English along with Spanish/Italian having their text accidentally switched around.
- The instructional video seen on most EyeToy games upon start-up is missing here and therefore it does not appear on the main menu as a selectable option.
- The short animation involving the games logo is instead a picture showing off a (most likely) placeholder design using one of the video messaging icons and 'PLAY' text underneath alongside a line saying Warning: Any resemblance to real persons is purely intentional with the top left corner having the same EyeToy design seen on retail cover art.
- Loading screen uses a slimmer 3D model with a different (and much less interesting) design for the monkey and appears to have very dark lighting when compared to the final build for some reason while also taking a lot longer to load in-between modes.
- A watermark appears on the title screen (Eyetoy Alpha - Built at 20:55:39 on Mar 18 2003) rather than the 3D model of the games logo and both the various navigation icons and scrolling text bars are in a visibly rough state overall.
- The options menu lacks an option for changing languages (see above) while the 'Credits' option here is just scrolling text not too different to those seen in later games while the final would have a much more interesting sequence involving head-shots of (presumably) the developers children alongside art of the games characters with Boogie Nights as background music.
- Playroom contains the same choice of effects and act the same way as seen on retail but are in a slightly different order.
- There appears to be a few more backgrounds to choose from for recording video messages and none match those seen in the final with them all appearing as flat images rather than moving backgrounds, rather oddly navigation also appears to be reversed in direction in this menu only.
- Mini-games functionally work although each are in varying states of completion visually with character models either being placed or animated differently and text either being off-center or unfinished due to a lack of voices alongside a handful of early logo and menu designs/layouts.
- It seems originally there were plans for a progression system in which other mini-games and playroom effects would be locked off until beating or reaching a certain score, this would be later removed so that everything is available from the get go and was most likely done for those who possibly did not have a Memory Card to save game data.
