Notes
The Cutting Room Floor research
- Unreleased US localization, it is sometimes referred to as Final Fantasy II: Dark Shadow Over Palakia, though this subtitle never appears in the game itself.
- The game can be played from start to finish, with quite a few NoA mandated changes already in place.
- It doesn't appear as if the game was ready for release however, as the translation is in a very rough state. For example, references to death are casually left in the script, which would have meant the game would be rejected if it was sent to NoA for approval. There is also evidence of further changes that weren't implemented in this version of the game.
- It's cancellation is thought to be due to Squaresoft opting to translate Final Fantasy IV instead of continuing on with a game for the outdated NES.
