This form is meant for demos distributed publicly on demo discs.

Often demo discs contain multiple demos. In that case, create two articles:

1. One for the demo itself, using this form (Form:Demo)

2. One for the demo disc, using Form:Demo_disc

Do not upload:

  • any prototypes for the current generation. No Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Wii U, or Switch prototypes allowed.
  • any prototypes for games currently in development.
  • any prototypes of games released in the past 10 years.
  • any prototypes of first party games developed by Nintendo or Microsoft
  • any prototypes from known illegal sources, such as hacking, unauthorized downloads, etc. Only prototypes originating from physical media are allowed
  • any source code less than 20 years old or otherwise commercially viable. Source code must be scrubbed of personal information before being uploaded to the site

It is fine to write articles about these, but it is not allowed to upload prototypes of them. Any violations will be removed.

Admins can make exceptions to these rules in individual cases. If you believe you have an exception, DM an admin on Discord.

Demo information
Game name:
Choose the game name wisely. Try to choose the canonical game name. Take care to use the proper casing. When in doubt, google it and use the same one Wikipedia or Giant Bomb uses. Please use the search function to check if the article doesn't exist already.

The article name will be: Game name (demo).
Demo name:

The convention we use is as follows (use the most descriptive name available; choose the first one, if not available, then the second one, etc.):

  1. Use the name that describes where the demo came from or its purpose, especially if this is the name used in other places.
e.g. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Nick Arcade demo), Sonic Rush (E3 2005 demo)
  2. Use the full date, if available.
e.g. Ecco: The Tides of Time (Apr 13, 1994 demo)
    • Do not use the time (Apr 13, 1994, not Apr 13, 1994 16:32:42).
    • If there are two demos of the same game on the same day, mark the second B, the third C etc.
      e.g. Metal Head (Dec 7, 1994 demo B)
      • The latest file modification date on the disc(s).
      • Sometimes executables on the disc(s) contain build dates.
  3. Use the month and year, if the specific day is unavailable.
e.g. Ecco: The Tides of Time (Apr 1994 demo)
  4. If the build date is unknown, or suspicious, use any extra information that can identify the demo from others.
e.g. Aero the Acro-Bat (PAL demo)
  5. If all else fails, just use Game Name demo.
    e.g. Lobo (demo)
    • If you are not sure what to do, use this convention and don't worry, we will modify the article accordingly.
