A late prototype of Grand Theft Auto III (GTAIII for European localization) for the Sony PlayStation 2 (unsure if is it, to be confirmed yet).

Notes

  • Despite what many people are inclined to believe, the PAL v1.40 of Grand Theft Auto III was released by Rockstar Games as a mistake. People believe that v1.40 released first, then released a revised v1.60 disc later on that was to "patch" the glitches and extra dialogue in the game. The truth is, Rockstar Games released an unfinished build (aka a very late beta prototype) for consumer release, by mistake.
  • This page has been made to spread awareness that v1.40 is a late beta prototype, and even though it was released by Rockstar Games by mistake, it is still categorized as a beta prototype because of the very odd glitches (from early alpha GTA III era) and dialogue.

General Differences

  • The Dodo plane flies closer in the cities and in front of the Portland Police Station, the Dodo will fly right into a building, this is because in the early GTA III alpha phase, the building was originally not there, and Rockstar wanted the plane to fly closer in town.
  • Intro credits movie shows the blue police cars (the one featured in Pre-9/11 footages) that was scrapped very late, while in game, the cars are black.
  • Pedestrian Brad says the line "I designed the PS2". Obviously, this was a placeholder line that was not intended in the official final release, and it was cut in the final build of the game, replaced with Brad singing "Stripe Summer".
  • Passing checkpoints in races have no "ding" sound, while in the final release build, have sound.
  • Wasted & Busted tutorial scenes cannot be skipped, while in the final release build, they can.
  • During Kingdom Come mission by King Courtney, the spanked-up madmen were called "spanked-up suicide bombers".
  • During the final mission, Catalina says an extra line "Throw over the cash, and you can have your overused puta back".
