A prototype of Ape Escape for the PlayStation.
Notes
- Work-in-progress version of the commercially-released Japanese demo that still contains most of the game.
- The game appears mostly complete, with all levels implemented and undergoing polish.
- The Time Station has an early layout in which the stage select switch is located in a separate room. The final game moves the stage select switch to the same room as the memory card switch.
- When a stage is selected on the stage select screen, a debug menu pops up letting the player to choose the sub-section of the stage they wish to begin in.
- There are five test levels, accessible through selecting the final stage on the stage select screen.
JUMP crashes the game.
SARU2 is a monkey test level using geometry from the first level with corrupted textures. There are three monkeys of different kinds peppered about.
SARU3 is another monkey test level using a piece of Dexter's Island and a single monkey. There is also a copy of the Specter's Castle boss walking in place, and he can be defeated like a normal enemy in two hits at which point he unceremoniously explodes into coins.
SARU4 is a basic physics test level featuring ramps, water, hanging surfaces, climbable surfaces, and not much else.
- There is no
SARU1.
TEST is a level that appears to be for experimenting with more elaborate setups for platforming and catching monkeys. It begins with a seemingly insurmountable door that appears impossible to get through, but using the monkey radar reveals there is more behind it.
- Pressing
L1+L2+R1+R2+L3+R3 on the gadget assignment screen of the pause menu gives you instant access to all gadgets.
- The game's selection of unlockable minigames is still being heavily worked on.
- Ski Kidz Racing and Specter Boxing appear complete, but lack music.
RADIO is a minigame cut from the final game, in which you play as a monkey cheerleader who has to time their inputs with their teammates' actions in a call-and-response manner. It appears functionally complete, but audio is entirely missing, making the minigame rather difficult. On screen is a debug display giving you information about the state of the game, your input values and your timing. This display can be hidden by pushing Triangle.
????? (titled Monkey Football ingame) is another cut minigame. It is extremely early as all you can do is move a monkey around a blue void endlessly.
- There is no trace of Galaxy Monkey.
