A prototype of Cry of Fear for the PC.

Original Information on Internet Archive

This is a work in progress build of Cry of Fear from June 7th, 2010. It contains early versions of maps, models, sounds, music (including tracks that were completely cut and never publicly released), etc.

This is a cleaned up version of the build, without unnecessary personal files, such as playermodels and some other misc things.

As you might be able to guess, this will *not* run on the latest version of Half-Life. Use a pre-Steampipe version of HL1 (the SourceRuns GoldSrc Package has one).

It requires the following launch parameters to work properly:

-game CryOfFear -num_edicts 4096 -heapsize 1536000 -hw

You can also add the following to "fix" forced mouse acceleration:

-noforcemparams -noforcemaccel -noforcemspd

This build is being released in an attempt to preserve modding history, and to give people a better look into how the game was made.

Here's a peek into what the build contains (more or less):

- a lot of earlier, unfinished versions of maps (most interesting are the college entrance, "morning", the video stress test and the asylum; most others are more or less finished)

- early weapon models and animations (most interesting is the sniper rifle and all of the variants of the switchblade, shotgun and syringe)

- a ton of earlier versions of music tracks, as well as songs that were never publicly released before

- early monster models (most interesting are slower3 and faceless, as well as the slower babies)

- early sound effects (most interesting are the quiet sawrunner and early cutscene dialogue)

- an even earlier, 2009 server dll, which, as you might be able to guess, doesn't work very well, but still serves as an interesting peek into what the mod was like at that time and more!

As a final request, do NOT use any assets from this build for your own projects, simply use them as inspiration at most.

Have fun digging through this.
