This prototype appears to be a near-release build (being just 19 days away from the first "beta" version, v0.92). This build appears to be a release-compiled build, perhaps compiled for testing, where most features from v0.92 are available, but oftentimes implemented slightly differently.

This build is notable because it is a Windows build. Growtopia initially launched on Android ("v0.92" on Dec 1, 2012), and later iOS ("v1.00" on Jan 11, 2013), only being released on Windows "in beta" in July of 2013.

Notes

  • The title screen does not show a version number.
  • The about screen identifies this build as "Growtopia V0.01".
  • The about screen only credits Phil Hassey and Mike Kasprzak, and does not mention "Original soundtrack".
  • The game plays "suspended.mp3" as its title screen music, instead of Cory Mollenhour's title music.
  • The options screen shows more skin color options. The v0.92 release only appears to have 8 (plus an additional 6 for paid supporters), while this build features a whopping 32.

Origin
