Notes
The Cutting Room Floor research
- This build includes an experimental multi-core DirectX 9 renderer, a new DMX-based particle system, updates the VRAD lighting simulator (alongside a sample BSP for the Half-Life 2: Episode One chapter "Direct Intervention", which was used as part of the demo) - as well as slides and notes for the press event.
- The "Source Particle Benchmark" is a technical demo that shows off the then-new particle system and performance improvements to be included as part of upcoming Valve games, which included Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2 and Portal. It was demonstrated to journalists in a private press event dubbed the "Valve Multicore Hardware Day", which occurred on November 1st 2006.
