A prototype of Invasion from Beyond for the PlayStation.

Notes

  • Does not work in Mednafen (Video Standard Mismatch).
  • Unusual, because the PS logo shows SCEA
  • However, it does post-date the initial EU retail version by 6 days, possibly making it a US localization intermediate.
  • No startup still-image loading screen, similar to the EU version.
  • Doesn't check the memory card at the title screen
  • Title screen shows "Push Start" instead of "Press Start"
  • Main menu is loaded with more debugging options that obviously aren't seen in retail: Level Select, Video Mode, Credits, Death, Sound Test and Attract Mode
    • Interestingly, this Death option is present in the final as an intended cheat code, but does not work without hacking. The origin of it is at least now seen in this prototype.
    • The level names are different, and there's a Washington Demo, as well as a "Suburbia"
    • Death can be toggled On or Off, which is in regards to player health (ie, invincibility)
  • Ship select theme is shorter (missing final section)
  • The ships have different names
  • Different menu sounds
  • No ship/character bios
  • Nearly all weapons/parts are not available.
  • The parts acquisition/scientist system works in a different way
  • The mission briefings/instructions simply overlay the screen, rather than switching to a menu with a full background
  • Differences in the briefing text, as well
  • Training mission uses a different music. It's in fact an earlier rendition of a theme used in later missions. Also shorter
  • Pausing the game doesn't interrupt the music
  • The ship's weapons aren't autofire
  • Different sets of tasks/missions within each level
  • Miscellaneous Notes:
    • Game is emulatable: Issues (as of April 17, 2021).
    • Game contains dongle protection: No.
    • Game contains debugging symbols: N/A
    • Dump was originally scrambled: No
