A prototype of Red Asphalt for the PlayStation.

Notes

  • Interplay FMV has no scene audio, but background music plays which is not heard in the final.
  • All cut scenes have some differences, actually.
  • Opening FMV uses a short sample of a Peter Gunn rendition instead. When it fades out, the rest of the sequence is silent.
  • Different title screen, much simpler; no copyright info. It has "Options" instead of "Load Game" as the third selection.
  • Choosing Options still goes to the 1 Player FMV, where it uses a short sample of the Mission Impossible theme and no voice-over narration. After loading, then the options menu opens.
  • The options menu is found in the 1 player game selection in both the prototype and final. This is obviously redundant, so they removed it from the main menu in the final.
  • Slight difference in the Options menu itself, and fewer available.
  • Also once you enter the 1 Player menu (either way), you can't return to the previous menu. It forces you to select a car, character, etc.
  • Loading screen bars have different colors. There's also just a square instead of the disc icon.
  • Location info is in a different part of the screen
  • No voice-overs to accompany the character select screen. Text font for character select is different.
  • Choosing a character's story option crashes the game on a black screen.
  • The FMV after choosing to start a race uses a sample from the classic Halloween theme
  • Miscellaneous Notes:
    • Game is emulatable: Yes (as of April 17, 2021).
    • Game contains dongle protection: No.
    • Game contains debugging symbols: N/A
