A prototype of Shadow Madness for the PlayStation.

Notes

  • An NTSC-U build dated over five months before the final.
  • Starts with a boot menu instructing the player to choose either "App 1" or "App 2".
    • App 1 is a limited demo of Shadow Madness.
    • App 2 is some sort of tech demo referred to as "FBALLS" in the files - it appears to be from the PSYQ SDK.
  • Shadow Madness
    • Limited demo that seems to start in the middle of the story.
    • The battle HUD is a bit more basic and uses names for each character in the player's party instead of pictures.
    • The EP screen shown after battle is also slightly more basic, and the text on it isn't centered.
    • Pressing the Select button ends the demo with an ending screen advertising the game. It then spits the player back out at the boot menu.
      • If select is pressed in-battle it will first show how much experience each player gained from the battle before the demo ends.
  • FBALLS
    • An entirely unrelated visual demo of a ball bouncing around the screen.
    • Demo has a different background each time it's booted.
    • Pressing up or down increases or decreases the number of balls that are present.
      • The screen also lists the amount of balls on screen.
      • A length of time is also listed on-screen but it's not clear what it represents or what unit it is using. It's possible that it relates to how long each frame is taking to process, as it increases with the number of balls that are being displayed at once.
    • Pressing select ends the demo.
  • Miscellaneous Notes:
    • Game is emulatable: Yes (as of April 17, 2021).
    • Game contains dongle protection: No.
    • Game contains debugging symbols: No
    • Dump was originally scrambled: No
