An early prototype of Far Cry for PC and Xbox.
Notes
- Originates from this HDD image.
- Predates the final by about two years.
- This build was recovered in a rather unusual way. It was found on a deleted DVT3 partition of a Xbox Development Kit that appears to have had a recovery disc ran on it at some point. The data is fully intact despite the partition being overwritten with a DVT4 cache partition.
- Comes with an executable for PC as well as xbes for an unreleased Xbox port.
- Both xbes will hang on hardware due to an invalid CRT error related to CreateCubeTexture before the level starts. The PC executable has no issues with loading into levels.
- Rename xisle.exe to quake3.exe to fix a crashing issue on modern versions of Windows.
- The PC executable expects to run on older Nvidia cards like the E3 2002 demo. The build may have issues rendering the terrain on some cards.
- Seems to be from the X-Isle iteration of development.
- The only playable levels included are powerplant and testbed.
- The entire scripts folder needs to be copied into Scripts\Default\Entities or else testbed will crash while loading.
- Boots into a debug console by default.
- Commenting out g_StartLevel in engine.ini boots the game into a primitive menu. The menu is displayed upside down on Xbox, but it is displayed correctly with the PC executable.
- According to developer documents, this build was internally known as Milan Milestone.
