A prototype/prerelease build of Mortal Kombat 4 for the PC from 1998-06-02 (about two weeks before the North American release build, five weeks before the European release build).
Notes
- Disc has hand-written date "13/8/98", "PC Beta", and "Preview".
- README.TXT file on disc indicates it was made for Eurocom 1998.
- DATA directory has only "B_" versions of character ECM files. The release version has "E_" versions of the same files as well.
- "B_" ECM files have timestamps 15 minutes prior to the same files on the North American release version.
- FILESYS.DAT, MK4.exe, and M_INTRO.ECM are from about two weeks before the North American release version of the same files.
- Missing the M_EURO.ECM file from the North American release.
- Some CD audio tracks differ from the release versions:
- All tracks were remastered (or at least normalized) for the release
- Except for the remastering, tracks 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, and 12 seem to be the same music between this prototype and the release versions
- Track 9 for the prototype is 30 seconds shorter than the release (01:32 vs. 02:02), and the sections that are the same were remastered for the release
- Track 10 in the prototype has a short extra sound at the very end of the track, likely left unintentionally
- Track 13 on the prototype disc is not present on the release version at all
- Track 14 on the prototype and 13 on the release version seem to be the same music except for the remastering
- Track 15 on the prototype and 14 on the release version seem to be the same music except for the remastering
- Track 16 on the prototype and 15 on the release version seem to be the same music except for the remastering
