Notes
The Cutting Room Floor research
- The ROM's header is used to date this prototype.
- There's no sound or music at all in this prototype.
- The title screen is slightly darker in the prototype and lacks some texture on the "floor" that exists in the final.
- In the prototype, the Midway credit on the title screen doesn't exist and the Acclaim credit is above the logo. In the final, the Acclaim credit is beneath the logo and a Midway credit above.
- There are no demos after the title screen.
- The game boots right into the title screen, there is no SEGA screen.
- There is no trademark/copyright information before the title screen.
- The Iguana Entertainment and Arena Entertainment company credit screens don't exist yet.
- When you press start at the title screen, the available selections are "ONE/TWO PLAYER" and "TWO PLAYER TEAM". In the final, the available selections are "HEAD TO HEAD", "TEAM GAME", and "OPTIONS".
- In the prototype, you can enter a password along with your initials to safe guard your score. This was removed for the final.
- In the prototype, it says "CHALLENGER NEEDED!" in every slot on the initials screen. In the final, only playable slots say "JOIN IN!"/"CHALLENGER NEEDED!".
- In the prototype, the two frames that contains the photos of each player has a green background on the left and a purple background on the right. In the final, this has been switched.
- In the prototype, the Seattle Supersonics consists of Kemp and McKey. In the final, the team consists of Kemp and Schrempf. Both players have different stats.
- In the prototype, Jackson under the Dallas Mavericks has a different photo in comparison to the final.
- The logo for the Denver Nuggets is different in the prototype.
- The logo for the Utah Jazz is different in the prototype.
- In the prototype, Mourning under the Charlotte Hornets has a different photo in comaparison to the final.
- The logo for the Detroit Pistons is different in the prototype.
- In the prototype, Schrempf belongs to the Indiana Pacers. In the final, it's McKey instead.
- The logo for the Milkwavkee Bucks is different in the prototype. Lohavs' photo is slightly different in the prototype.
- In the prototype, Seikaly's photo is slightly different.
- You cannot pause the game in the prototype.
- The game will often hang when using the controller, particularly when pressing left and right simulaneously on the D-Pad.
