Download Tony Hawk's Underground (Sep 11, 2003 prototype) (info) |
A late preview of Tony Hawk's Underground for the Sony PlayStation 2, dated 21 days before the final build.
The original release of this build was a repack of loose and some incorrect files, missing much of the usual non-file metadata that the disc is supposed to have. An unmodified dump has been handed to sairuk and released on January 2, 2022.
Notes
- There are no FMV's in this build.
- A demo mode flag is set to on, limiting some of the game's functionalities. Through modding (e.g. using the xdelta patch provided in the download link), said flag can be turned off and the full game unlocked.
- Only the first three levels (New Jersey, Manhattan, Tampa) are selectable.
- In the Story Mode you can only progress until Chapter 10. After beating the Tampa AM goal, the words "DEMO BUILD" flash on the screen. In this build, another message appears on top of that and the game glitches out, rendering any attempt to exit impossible.
- There are a few levels in the game files, that were removed from the final game. Notably, a level called "West Side" which is assumed to be a test level for Neversoft's later title Gun (2005) and an early scrapped level called "Australia".
- A few others, aside from the test level and a broken version of London (a THPS4 leftover), are unfinished ports of levels featured in the first two Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games, e.g. School I, Downhill Jam and Philadelphia. They would return as fully functioning levels in Tony Hawk's Underground 2 (2004).
- Has an additional PAL executable on the disc with the SLES-51848 serial number, which can be used by simply routing to this file in SYSTEM.CNF.
- Some NPC's in levels only accessible in non-demo mode are either stuck in a constant T-pose or copy the skaters movements. Getting too close to those doing the latter crashes the game.

This build uses the same cheat code inputs as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 (2002). To be able to enter these codes, navigate to the main menu after unlocking the build from it's demo mode, then go to "Options" and "Cheat codes".
