Notes
The Cutting Room Floor research
- Due to an interpolation code bug in this build's version of the PWM driver, corrupt PWM samples play in lesser accurate emulators when music is heard. This can be patched by doing the following in a hex editor (fix thanks to ValleyBell):
- search for D013 4420 4620
- replace 2041 2061 with 2061 2061
- 6 bytes later, replace 2051 2071 with 2071 2071
- fix the checksum by adding $0040 to it.
- The header still contains the name "Knuckles' Ringstar", while the game is called "Chaotix" everywhere else. This is an early working title for "Knuckles' Chaotix".
- Miscellaneous Notes:
- Game is emulatable: Yes (as of March 2, 2024).
Screenshots
"ATRACTION SELECT" Screen, stage select in World Entrance. Strangely, it states different names for the stages than the ones present in the Title Screen Stage Select.
The other 2 stages of the "ATRACTION SELECT" screen.
Early Morning Botanic Base. One of the eight settings for a stage, selectable in Stage Select.
Late Morning, another one of the 8 "AT-TIME" settings in the Title Screen's Stage Select.
Early Day, another one of the 8 "AT-TIME" settings in the Title Screen's Stage Select.
Late Day, another one of the 8 "AT-TIME" settings on the Title Screen's Stage Select. Notice the red clouds, probably the rest of the sky wasn't done yet.
"Early Sun Set", another of the 8 "AT-TIME" options in the Title Screen's Stage Select.
"Late Sun Set", another of the 8 "AT-TIME" options on the Title Screen's Stage Select. Even though it may seem the exact same as "Early Sun Set", it's a different setting.
Early Night, another of the 8 "AT-TIME" options in the Title Screen's Stage Select. Note that those purple things in the background and the waterfall change colour every few seconds.
Late Night, the last of the 8 "AT-TIME" options in the Title Screen's Stage Select. Even though it may seem exactly the same as Early Night, I assure you it's a different option.
The Screen in World Entrance has no lights, no pictures on the screen, nothing. This is accessed through Stage Select, I have no idea if it's supposed to be this way because the game crashes few seconds after starting Adventure mode.
There's no Combi Catcher of any sort present on this build.
The "Pinball" Select is also missing, along with the launcher. You just keep running until the screen fades out and you go to the NPC SELECT, and once you've selected your NPC, you go to the "ATRACTION SELECT" screen.
The NPC select. All question marks are unselectable, which means that Mighty and two others are unselectable. Also, notice how Bomb has the original S1 design.
Botanic Base Act 2, Early Morning Setting.
This occurs when you select Act 2 of World Entrance in the Stage Select. Since it doesn't really exist, it just loads this, and loads the movement engine, after which you fall to your doom. It plays Crystal Nightmare when accessed.
This is what happens when you select Act 3 of World Entrance. It plays Tachy Touch, and you fall to your doom once you enter it. Strangely, you don't die.
This is what happens when you load Act 4 of World Entrance. It plays Tube Panic, and once you fall, they will eventually loop and fall onto the second monitor. The three monitors are ring monitors, but that doesn't affect anything.
This is what happens when you load World Entrance Act 5. You just fall through, as silence (or in this case, scratchiness from the PWM chip) plays.
This is the entrance of the "Tube" special stage. Note that it says "0 Limits". This is not because you don't need limits, but that there aren't any, nor are there enough rings for you to get past more than one checkpoint.
A more open area of the "Tube" special stage. As you can see, there is absolutely nothing out here.
This may be an emulator problem, but there's a polygon missing at the top of the tunnel.
I have absolutely no idea what that speed shoe monitor is doing there.
