Notes

The Cutting Room Floor research
  • PAL prototype.
  • This prototype comes after the well known prototype scene release from PREMIERE.
  • This build is actually a complete dump of another build that was featured on an incomplete set of EPROMs.
  • While the date written on the EPROMs predates the final US build by about five days, it's possible that the date written on the EPROM is a burn date rather than an actual build date. As such, this build could be much older than the date specified on the EPROM.
  • Changes:
    • No "Rising Jackpot" message after the score tally following multiball/bonus stage completion.
    • Alternate music used in the following locations:
      • All emeralds collected sequence
      • Rexxon escape sequence
      • Multiball/bonus stage exit
      • Level completed sequence
      • Ending sequence
  • Glitches:
    • In Toxic Caves, it is possible to glitch through the entrance barrier in the upper-right board.
    • Robotnik's Ship post-defeat destruction animation has an issue where the wreckage graphics switch to the wrong palette partway through the sequence. This happens only momentarily in the final, but is much more prominent in this proto.
