A prototype of Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft for the PlayStation.
Notes
- An NTSC-U build dated two months before the final.
- Limited demo build.
- The game starts with an image of Lara Croft with a copyright notice at the bottom. The EIDOS logo animation in the startup sequence is not present, nor is the introductory FMV animation for the game.
- The title screen has a different background image (which is very similar in appearance to the introductory image during the startup sequence, minus the copyright text).
- If left too long on the title screen the screen will fade to black and enter an autodemo.
- There are three autodemos that can play, and they all appear to be from the one level that is playable in this version.
- There is no "Lara's Home" option on the title screen, nor is there a controller options menu.
- There is no "Load Game" option, only "New Game".
- Selecting "New Game" starts the game in a level that appears to be a mix between High Security Compound and Area 51 - this is the only level that is playable in this version.
- The level starts with High Security Compound's intro cutscene.
- The player begins in the same room they do in High Security Compound in the final, but the rest of the level appears to be a match for the level "Area 51" instead - the difference is immediately noticeable upon leaving the room.
- The file for the level identifies it as "AREA51", too.
- The pre-level loading screen is very different to the final. Loading bars are missing on loading screens, in this version.
- Controls seem to differ a bit from the final, with the R2 button making Lara crouch instead of the L2 button.
- When picking up an item, an icon of that icon appears in the bottom right corner of the screen. For most items this is a rotating 3D model, though for guns, a slightly strange looking 2D sprite of that gun appears instead. Several items appear to have particularly strangely or glitchy models.
- Upon death, it immediately quits out to the main menu.
- The options menu in the inventory only allows the player to quit the game, rather than allowing the player to change the sound and screen options.
- Has emulation issues in Mednafen that cause it to crash whenever gameplay or the demo mode is entered, also stops the title screen music from playing. Observed to work on ePSXe.
- The game must be loaded from the .cue file to work correctly. This is likely related to the cause of the Mednafen issues, as the resulting issies are identical. Despite this, even when loading from the .cue file, Mednafen will refuse to play it properly.
- Miscellaneous Notes:
- Game is emulatable: Issues (as of April 17, 2021).
- Game contains dongle protection: No.
- Game contains debugging symbols: No
- Dump was originally scrambled: No
