An early prototype of NBA Jam 2001 for Game Boy Color.
Notes
- Released alongside source code, assets, and design documents.
- Might not load in some emulators; a workaround is to change the file extension to .gb
- Practice mode was implemented; all other unavailable modes redirect back to the main menu rather than an empty screen
- Upon selecting Season Game now redirects through a series of unimplemented screens before proceeding to gameplay, in order: Playoffs → Select Team → Select Schedule → Line Up
- The player can now exit a game by pressing Start
- Has an associated readme file:
This demo contains the following changes:
- The season option on the main menu will take you to a standard four player game, the practice option now takes you to a 2 player practice game.
- I've put more screens into the menu system (season option), but until I get the new background graphics further work has been put on hold. (video memory limitations)
- Players now block (although collision avoidance not complete). At the moment they are a bit too good at this and always tend to steal the ball during passes but this will be corrected soon.
- Receiving animations have been introduced.
- Releasing the ball has now been linked to specific frames within the animation sequences. I'm working on this at the moment so it still doesn't look exactly right in this version.
- The ball is now taken out of play after a basket has been scored and put back in after the players have run to their start positions (still waiting more info on the rules for this). There is then an auto sequence where your player passes the ball to his teammate and the game starts again.
- I've begun work on the basic game setup and scoring framework.
- If you press START during a game you are returned to the menu. (occasionally glitches, will look at when I'm back on the front end)
